School Chaplaincy
Greenbank State School offers a chaplaincy service the equivalent of four full days a week to students on a referral basis, from teachers and/or parents. This service is funded partly by the P&C Association and partly by the Logan West Chaplaincy Committee which raises donations from local churches and the community and Federal Government.
The Chaplain contributes towards addressing religious, spiritual and ethical needs of all students. Whilst personally modelling and owning their own faith positions or belief, chaplains avoid any implications that any one religion, denomination or other set of beliefs is advantageous or superior to any other denomination, religion or belief.
As well as one on one pastoral care, the Chaplain oversees such group activities as S.U.P.A. Club (a voluntary lunchtime activity with some Christian content) and makes referrals to friendship groups which also meet at lunchtimes.
The Chaplain also assists some children who have specific needs in their transition from primary to high school, linking them with the high school chaplains.
Where appropriate, the Chaplain provides feedback to both the parents and teachers and may suggest referral to other agencies when circumstances are warranted.
